Family Portrait Week Launches

HRH Princess Michael of Kent launched the first ever ‘Family Portrait Week' on 14th March 2009 in aid of The Variety Club Children's Charity.

This initiative, created by international photographer Gary Italiaander and developed in partnership with award-winning photographer Hossain Mahdavi FMPA, has enlisted the support of The Master Photographers Association which utilises hundreds of qualified MPA photographers across the UK.

The general public can donate a minimum of £25 via the Family Portrait Week website and in return, donors will receive a gift voucher for a family portrait session and print  redeemable at any participating studio around the country.

 Gary Italiaander said:

"The term family can mean many different things. We want ‘families' - whether relatives, workmates, football fans or one man and his dog, to pledge their support to Variety Club and capture their own unique family for posterity. ‘Family Portrait Week' will capture the interest of the public, will change perceptions of the portrait culture in the UK and raise vital funds for a much loved charity. Since 1995, when I opened the Italiaander Portrait Gallery in Harrods, I have had the unique opportunity to see first hand how different people invest in portraiture and how important it is to them to capture their families for the future."

Ken Mustoe, Chief Barker of the Variety Club said:

"The Variety Club Children's Charity has been a family for over 60 years. We are lending our support to this initiative as we work daily with a whole host of families that desperately require our support. For over sixty years the Variety Club Children's Charity has been empowering and enabling children and young people. This is only possible thanks to our family of supporters throughout the U.K. Anyone interested in capturing their family portraiture and supporting Variety Club please partake in this scheme."
