Youth Clubs

We believe that neither economic hardship nor disability should be allowed to prevent children from living every day to the full. We work hard to help all the children and young people we support feel empowered and liberated to be who they want to be and do what they want to do. Through our youth club funding and the Variety at Work programme, we provide opportunities for disadvantaged and disabled children to learn more about the world, and more about themselves. In the process, we hope to raise their aspirations and improve their prospects for the future.

The Variety Club believes that a key way of helping disadvantaged youngsters to achieve their ambitions is through supporting youth clubs. These facilities give children the activities and interests which will keep them from resorting to crime, anti-social behaviour and drugs at such a vulnerable stage of their lives. Our work through youth groups and community projects helps to open doors for so many children who would not otherwise be encouraged to develop their skills and their social networks. We have seen first hand how the development of these communities for young people starts them off on the right track.

How we help

Barking and Dagenham Youth Dance is an exciting project that gives young people (13–19) the chance to practise and perform with some of the country’s top choreographers. The Variety Club’s recent grant for equipment and costumes will help these dedicated movers and shakers to reach the top of their game.
Since the 1950s, the Variety Club has supported Poplar Boys and Girls Club and its famous boxing gym by buying equipment, funding trips and a whole host of other activities. Famous alumni include footballers Lee Bowyer and Paul Brush, as well as Commonwealth Boxing Champion Silvestre Mitty. Click here to find out more information.
