6TH OCTOBER 2009, ADELPHI HOTEL, LIVERPOOL
The first ever Lifetime Achievements Awards with Liverpool Unites and Variety Club children's charities was held at the Adelphi Hotel, in Liverpool on Friday, 16th October.
We were delighted that David Gest secured not only a Hollywood royalty legend, Jane Russell, but also some of the great legends of the Motown era including Freda Payne (Band of Gold), Denice Williams (Free), Billy Paul (Me and Mrs Jones), Candi Staton (Young Hearts Run Free), Peabo Bryson (The Stylistics). All of these artistes delighted the audience by performing their biggest hits the crowd went wild.
Receiving the Lifetime Achievement Awards were Jane Russell, most famous for her film "The Outlaw" but a legendary Hollywood actress in many other movies alongside Marilyn Monroe and Bob Hope etc. Also receiving awards on the night were Motown legends, Percy Sledge, Ben E King, Dennis Edwards of the Temptations. Never before has so many Motown greats appeared together on one stage, this was a unique and magical evening.
On the night both charities were the beneficiaries of a fantastic silent auction and David Gest very kindly did a live auction of some unique items including many of Michael Jackson's personal collection.
The North West Variety Club Committee are delighted to donate all funds raised from this event to the Liverpool Committee for a Sunshine Coach in the Liverpool area.
