The Thames Vale Vultures and 3,406 Easter Eggs
Written by James Gadsby-Peet 14th April 2009
The Thames Vale Vultures Bike club have once again brought smiles to the faces of thousands of children across the Reading area by collecting 3,406 Easter Eggs.
As they have done for three years running the men and women of the Thames Vale Vultures Bike club have been pounding the streets of Reading and the surrounding area, to solicit kind donations of Easter Eggs, for those children who would otherwise go without.
'The Egg Run' took place on Good Friday and was a huge success. The Vultures met at 12pm in Reading town centre for one final push for donations from local stores. They then travelled in procession through the town to meet at Abbey Rugby Club outside Reading at 1pm.
At the rugby club more than 150 bikers handed over the 3,406 eggs to Variety at Work volunteers. Also greeting the bikers at the rugby club were stars of the Sky 1 show Gladiators, Doom and Enigma. With the children from Aldershot Garrison on hand to cheer the bikers in, the day took on a carnival feel.
Doom and Enigma chatted with the children and signed autographs throughout the afternoon, with the local paper even turning up to record the event. Once every child had got to choose an Easter egg, the boxes were labelled up and sent out to the schools and community groups the Variety Club supports in the local area.
