Written by Kate Walker 26th January 2012
Actor and Variety Ambassador, Robert Powell unveiled refurbishments of several areas of the Variety Children's Hospital at King's College Hospital, London yesterday (Wednesday 25th January).

The revamp of these spaces is part of our ongoing support of the Variety Children's Hospital, in partnership with King's College Hospital Charity, corporate donors such as Thomas Cook and the Toni & Guy Charitable Foundation, as well as patients, family, staff and of course, our generous donors.
Robert Powell is a longstanding supporter of Variety, the Children's Charity, and unveiled the plaque during the afternoon reception alongside Variety Children's Hospitals Chairman, Ronnie Nathan.
Robert said,
Having supported Variety, the Children's Charity for over 30 years, I am extremely honoured to be able to unveil these new spaces at the Variety Children's Hospital at King's.
I've seen how the support of Variety and its fundraisers continue to ensure that places such as King's can make life a more positive experience by providing emotional and practical support to a sick child, and his or her family.

Robert was welcomed with lots of jokes from the staff about his role as 'Dr Williams' in 'Holby City' and spent time meeting some of the patients and their families as he walked through the wards. The hospital also put on a lovely reception during the afternoon, including music and food, making a really celebratory and friendly atmosphere for all involved.
Professor Anil Dhawan, Clinical Director of Child Health, King's College Hospital, said,
Sustained regular donations from long-term fundraisers enable us to provide pioneering treatment, finance life-saving research and purchase the most up-to-date equipment, so that the Variety Children's Hospital at King's is now recognised as one of the best in the world.
They also help us to fund lots of extras, such as this new refurbishment, which go towards making sure the child's experience of hospital is a little less scary.
Thank you to everyone whom has supported our fundraising efforts over the years. Your support has ensured improvements and updates at the Variety Children's Hospital can enable the essential and pioneering work of the wonderful staff to continue in a warm and inviting environment!
